The 48-inch North Yonkers Trunk Sewer was installed in 1930 and conveys approximately 6 mgd of sewage to the Yonkers Joint Treatment Plant. The interceptor is installed at the foot of a steep hill adjacent to the Hudson River.
An intense rainstorm caused the hillside to wash out and completely disrupt the interceptor. Savin Engineers was called on to provide emergency services for the evaluation and design of the remediation. Savin Engineers immediately mobilized into the field
to assess the situation. The on-call emergency contractor was brought in to initiatebypass pumping and prevent additional overflow into the River. Savin’s Field Services Division was also mobilized to conduct CCTV inspection upstream and downstream of the break to determine the extent of the damage.
Savin prepared design documents for replacement of approximately 100 feet of pipe, including additional shoring and manhole replacement.
