Masons Island Road Bridge Replacement over Amtrack

  Connecticut Department of Transportation

  Stonington, CT

  $1.3 Million

Services provided include project management, resident inspection, office engineering and public relations. The construction activities include installation of a temporary precast, prestressed box beam bridge re-routing of utilities such as power, telephone, cable TV, water, demolition of the existing steel girder bridge and construction of a new precast prestressed box beam bridge.

Because the project crosses the eastern corridor branch of Amtrack, Savin’s work effort included daily coordination with Amtrak flagmen, engineers and supervisors on such matters as periods of track shutdown for sitework and details of construction and demolition work alongside and over the tracks. Electrical grounding of the temporary and permanent structures and protective fencing details were reviewed for approval and installation. Costs for the project were evaluated for the participating federal, state and railroad shares.
