The Elmsford UFSD’s interest in finding solutions to improve energy efficiency by upgrading or replacing existing mechanical and electrical equipment that was obsolete without burdening the taxpayer, resulted in a proposed energy performance contract. The primary goal was to use the savings from the increased efficiency to pay for the new equipment.

Savin assisted the district in identifying potential energy savings projects; led the process in initiating request for proposals, analyzing the proposals and recommending an appropriate energy performance contractor, and is presently assisting with the design and administrative services relating to energy performance contracts. The EPC will provide $2.7 million for renovations and wide scale energy improvements at the district’s four buildings. The project will include lighting replacement, boiler replacement, HVAC controls and weatherization. The entire investment will be recouped through energy savings over the 18-year contract at no additional tax increase to homeowners. Additionally, the district will seek an additional 10% state aid for eligible costs.
