Green Haven Correctional Facility Wastewater Treatment & Water System Improvements

Savin Engineers, P.C. provided design services for improvements to the existing wastewater treatment plant and the water distribution system at the Green Haven Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison for men located in the Town of Beekman in Dutchess County, New York. The approximate 300,000 gallon per day wastewater facility includes preliminary screening, followed by extended detention in an aerated lagoon and ultraviolet light disinfection. The water system includes several pumped wells, a softening plant, storage tanks and a booster pumping station.

Savin designed various improvements to the wastewater facility including the replacement of the aeration diffusers, the installation of an algae baffle on the lagoon outlet, a prefabricated building for the UV disinfection system, replacement of the effluent flow meter and other miscellaneous improvements. Savin also designed various improvements to the water distribution system including the demolition of the former filtration plant and miscellaneous well-field improvements and performed an evaluation of the booster pumping station to investigate the cause of impeller corrosion on the booster pumps.
