Catskill/Delaware Ultraviolet Light Disinfection Facility

Due to the ongoing success of New York City's watershed protection program, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and United States Environmental Protection Agency had agreed that the design and construction of a ultraviolet facility for the Catskill/Delaware supplies was both feasible and appropriate. Savin Engineers has been engaged to be part of a joint venture with Hazen and Sawyer/CDM to design of this new, $1 billion facility that will be located in Eastview, in the Towns of Mount Pleasant and Greenburgh in Westchester County, New York. The Eastview site is equipped with provisions for connection to the Catskill/Delaware aqueducts and meets the City's long-term goals for its water supply.

In coordination with Hazen and Sawyer and CDM, Savin Engineers' role will focus on detailed structural engineering design services for this facility, which is one of the largest water treatment facilities in the world. Responsibilities will include performing detail structural design of various aspects of the UV facility including the UV Facility and metering vaults, UV Facility platforms and stairs, and retaining walls. All design will be in accordance with the latest AISC, ACI, New York City and the most recently adopted New York State Building Codes. The newly constructed UV Facility would improve and ensure high quality water for the Catskill/Delaware Water Supply System.
