The City of Newark, New Jersey had experienced several street collapses each year due to undermining of the soil beneath the streets. It was determined that one of the principal causes of the undermining was due to deteriorated brick sewers.
Manhole Inspection - Savin conducted internal inspection of 600 manholes to determine the physical condition of the structures and to conduct reconnaissance of the sewers prior to video inspection. The condition of the manholes was documented and recorded on inspection forms and with photographs.
TV Inspection - Savin inspected approximately 65,000 linear feet of egg-shaped brick sewers up to four feet high and approximately 25,000 linear feet of brick sewer greater than four feet high. We had to fabricate several different skid assemblies that could be used in the egg-shaped sewers. The condition of the sewers was documented with videotapes, logs, and still photos.
