In an effort to further study the benefits of biological nutrient removal and the stripping of ammonia from New York City’s wastewater, the New York DEP Bureau of Water Pollution Control constructed a complete nutrient removal pilot plant and ammonia stripping pilot plant. This particular pilot study is the largest pilot study of its type in the world.
Working closely with the DEP, Savin’s team of inspectors monitored all civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and architectural work which was required by the contract drawings. Specific work elements included demolition and disposal of on site facilities, primary effluent pumping systems, pilot reactors, circular clarifiers, sludge holding tanks, hypochlorite tanks, trickling filter system, methanol feed systems and other ancillary equipment.
